Getting started with your Cougar
Day 1 with your Cougar

If you've just received your Cougar joystick and throttle, you may be at a loss as to what to do next. You've seen the installation guide that comes with it, you've seen the manual and had a quick flick through, but still, you may just be feeling somewhat unsure as to the steps to follow. And that's really what Cougar World is here for and its forums. If you need help, just shout, and we'll point you in the right direction. So what is the right direction for someone like yourself who's just received their brand new Cougar? Just follow these simple steps and you will be flying very quickly.
  • 1.) Take everything out of the box, and then just sit there for about an hour holding and admiring the Cougar. Sounds stupid? Believe me, you'll want to.

  • 2.) Install the software and then connect the controllers. Go to Cougar World's Installation and Setting Up section for a detailed and easy to follow guide on all of this.

  • 3.) Now move all the axes around, from their minimum to their maximum positions and back again. This will calibrate your Cougar, and then you are ready and you can go off flying if you want. I recommend however that you now update the firmware ... see the next step.

  • 4.) Update the firmware inside the Cougar to fix any bugs we've known about and improve its performance. See the Introduction to the Firmware and Flash upgrading from Foxy section. That's it, go off flying! Your Cougar isn't programmed, but all of its axes and buttons can be assigned to different functions within your game if it allows this. Enjoy!
You may now be thirsting for a bit more functionality from your Cougar, and wanting to tailor it so you can do more with all the hats and buttons, and use them more specifically in the flight sim of your choice. Well you don't need to learn about the programming yet for this, as we've done the hard work for you and written files specifically for nearly all the flight sims available. And we have a section in Cougar World that describes how to use them. Check out the Flying with Favourites section.

If you want to learn about the programming, the watch this space - we'll have some articles on Cougar World to gently introduce you to this. Or, just go for it. There's plenty of simple help in Foxy's Wizards menu, the manual and help file.

Cheers!
